| CAROLE KHAN-WHITE FIBRE ARTIST THEATRE DIRECTOR AND PRODUCER PLAYWRIGHT ACTOR I first began making dolls in 1994, when a children's musical play "SISTER RABBIT TAKES HARLEM," which I had written and directed, and which was produced by the prestigious Negro Ensemble Company, became a qualified "hit" on the New York youth theatre circuit. I thought to myself, "How nice it would be to have dolls that represent the various characters in the play." So I set about to design and create a "Sister Rabbit" doll. I knew absolutely nothing about dollmaking, but I did know how to sew.Little did I know that it would lead to a hidden passion for creating cloth characters! |

"CAROLE'S BROADWAY DIVAS" At the time I began making dolls, our theatre office was located at the corner of 48th Street and Broadway, where we had a perfect view of "the Great White Way" in both directions. Every day, I saw literally hundreds of actors, musicians, dancers, singers and others in the show business industry, rushing to auditions, hurrying to rehearsals, scuttling to classes, everyone of them hoping for that BIG BREAK, to "MAKE IT" in the world of entertainment. And I thought to myself, "We are all secret Divas, just nobody knows it yet. Even my little dolls are divas, hoping that someone will like them - buy them - give them a chance. So I decided on the name, "CAROLE'S BROADWAY DIVAS," 'cause that's what they are. Email Me! Links to Other Sites |
